This is really one of the nicest coffee table books I’ve ever seen. The photographs pop and the pages are so smooth. I’m pretty sure I’ll be flipping through this book for a long time before I take in everything it has to offer. Fans of the film will find this an invaluable addition to their collection.

The release is perfectly timed to Universal’s 100th anniversary Blu-ray that hit stores last month. Fans of the 1975 film — about a massive great white shark who terrorizes beachgoers on a resort island — should be thrilled for more rare, never-before-seen artwork, previously untold stories, and more in Titan’s new, extended edition. Readers are treated to sixteen additional pages of rarities, including additional storyboards from Production Designer Joe Alves, more behind-the-scenes photographs from the private collections of local crew members, and other great content from the making of the groundbreaking film.
Enter JAWS: Memories From Martha’s Vineyard from fifteenth-generation Martha’s Vineyard resident and film enthusiast Matt Taylor. It is a lengthy read but an endlessly entertaining journey worth the time to learn about the not-so sexy facts behind the film’s production. As one who has read The Jaws Log religiously since childhood and has seen every documentary or behind-the-scenes featurette ever created, I can honestly state that this coffee table book is the bigger boat that true Jaws fans need.

It won’t alleviate fears of going back in the water, but Taylor’s book will provide hours of engaging reading; and awe at the hundreds of newly discovered photographs that detail every aspect of the production as told through the words of the local crew, extras and film personnel. Jaws: Memories From Martha’s Vineyard is truly the last word on the subject of Steven Spielberg’s iconic motion picture.

Matt Taylor was only 2 years old when camera crews arrived on Martha’s Vineyard in 1974 to film Jaws. But when internationally renowned collector of movie memorabilia Jim Beller approached him in 2006 with an idea for a coffee-table book about the making of Steven Spielberg’s classic shark thriller, Taylor, a 15th-generation Vineyard resident, went door-to-door to find snapshots and other production artifacts that had gone unseen for over 35 years.
It was an angle so fresh that Spielberg volunteered to write the book’s foreword, and we awarded the book, named Jaws: Memories from Martha’s Vineyard, a star.
Kirkus also gave the book a Blue Star in September and named it one of their Best of 2011.

Thanks to the openness of the sets, there isn’t a single major actor (including Bruce the shark) or crew member that was able to dodge the shutters of the eager locals.
